Florida: Mark Miles, chief executive officer of the ATP, received a contract extension from the Board of Directors through 2005. Miles, 49, has directed the men's tennis tour since 1990. There had recently been speculation about his future in the wake of declining prize money and TV ratings. "I'm very pleased that the entire board has expressed their confidence my leadership," Miles said in a statement yesterday. Miles helped negotiate a 10-year, $1.2 billion deal the ATP signed with ISL four years ago, but the agreement backfired when the Swiss marketing company went bankrupt in 2001. At the urging of several top players, Miles has recently lobbied for more prize money and other financial benefits from the Grand Slam tournaments. (AP)
