Dubai: Top seed Roger Federer of Switzerland and Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic will meet in the $1 million ATP Dubai Duty Free Men's Open semifinals after scoring straight set wins. Federer defeated Hicham Arazi of Morocco 7-5, 6-3 in their quarterfinal matchup played in hot and windy conditions, while the huge serving Ljubicic smashed 11 aces to upset fifth seed Rainer Schuettler of Germany 6-3, 6-4. Arazi went 2-1 up in the first set after breaking Federer, but the Swiss drew level after breaking back in the eighth game and went on to take the set. The top seed then broke Arazi twice in the next set to score a comfortable win. Federer and Ljubicic will meet Saturday after playing two weeks ago in Marseilles in a game where the Croat retired hurt because of a shoulder injury. In earlier games, third-seeded Jiri Novak of the Czech Republic cruised through to the semifinals with a straight-sets win over sixth seed Sjeng Schalken of the Netherlands. Novak stopped Schalken from getting into full stride on a hot and windy afternoon, winning 6-4, 6-4. In the other quarterfinal, Tommy Robredo defeated Feliciano Lopez 6-7 (4/7), 6-3, 6-4 in an all-Spanish affair. (AP)
