Szavay upsets top-seeded Schiavone
Agnes Szavay of Hungary upset top-seeded Francesca Schiavone 6-1, 6-1 on Wednesday, in the second round at the Barcelona KIA Open.

The 82nd-ranked Szavay advanced to the quarterfinals of the $145,000 women's clay court event where she will next face American Meaghann Shaughnessy.
Schiavone joined No 2 Martina Mueller of Germany, who was defeated in the first round by Russian Alla Kudryavtseva in straight sets on Tuesday.
Kudryavtseva also advanced to the quarterfinals, beating Emmanuelle Gagliardi of Switzerland on Wednesday, 6-0, 6-4.
Also among those reaching the last eight were third-seeded Emilie Loit of France and No. 4 Kaia Kanepi of Estonia.
Loit beat compatriot Camille Pin 6-1, 6-1 while Kanepi eased past Maria Emilia Salerni of Argentina 6-3, 6-0.
Shaughnessy defeated Spain's Laura Pous Tio 7-5, 6-4; Flavia Pennetta of Italy beat Tatjana Malek of Germany 6-3, 6-4; and Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano outlasted Melinda Czink of Hungary, 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-2.
Edina Gallovits of Romania completed the quarterfinal field, beating Spain's Lourdes Dominguez Lino 6-4, 6-2.
