Sorana Cirstea of Romania routed second-seeded Bojana Jovanovski 6-3, 6-1 on Monday in the opening round of the Tashkent Open.
The 92nd-ranked Cirstea, who won the tournament in 2008, saved five break points in the first set. She dropped her serve once in the second, but broke the 19-year-old Serb four times to wrap up the match in 1 hour, 13 minutes.
Fourth-seeded Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia also advanced to the second round, ousting Mariya Koryttseva of Ukraine 6-0, 7-6 (1).
Seventh-seeded Russian Evgeniya Rodina beat Iryna Bremond of France 6-3, 4-6, 6-0.
In other first-round matches, Misaki Doi of Japan eliminated Mandy Minella of Luxembourg 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, while Valeria Savinykh of Russia defeated Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine 6-4, 6-3. Another Russian, Vitalia Diatchenko, beat Olga Govortsova of Belarus 7-6 (6), 3-6, 6-4.
