Basel:
Briton Tim Henman struggled to overcome Wayne Moodie of South Africa winning 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 but reached the quarterfinals for the eighth consecutive time at the Swiss Indoors in Basel. Henman, who crashed out in the third round of last week's Madrid Masters because of his mineral deficiency, is still looking to secure his berth in the Tennis Masters Cup in Houston on Nov. 15. Henman was aced 24 times by Moodie's booming served, and squandered four break points in the opening set, yet managed to tame the South African in the tie-break. Undeterred, Moodie continued to trouble Henman in the second set. A combination of unforced errors by the Englishman and solid play by Moodie in the second tiebreak left the pair at a set apiece. But after three hours of play Henman finally prevailed in the deciding third, converting the third of three match points for what was only the first break of the contest. In the quarterfinals, Henman will meet Jiri Novak, who ousted him in the opening round at the Olympics the last time they met. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
