Justine Henin-Hardenne beat Sybille Bammer of Austria 6-2, 6-3 in the second round of the Family Circle Cup on Tuesday. Henin-Hardenne also won the title in 2003 and has never lost in 12 matches at the tournament. In her first clay-court match since her victory in the French Open final last year, Henin-Hardenne had six double-faults. Other games Also on Tuesday, third-seed Patty Schnyder of Switzerland advanced to the third round with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Meilen Tu of the United States. In the final match of the night, seventh-seeded Dinara Safina of Russia beat countrywoman Vera Zvonareva 7-5, 7-5 to advance to the third round. Catalina Castano of Colombia came back from 5-1 down to beat fifth-seeded Nicole Vaidisova 7-5 6-2 in a second-round match. Castano lost five straight games but then won 10 in a row to go up 7-5, 4-0 before the 16-year-old Czech finally held serve. In first-round matches on Tuesday, ninth-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues needed nine breaks to prevail against Mariana Diaz-Oliva of Argentina 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, and qualifier Julia Vakulenko of Ukraine upset 10th-seeded Jelena Jankovic 7-6 (5), 7-5. Jankovic has lost eight in a row, including three to qualifiers, since the Serb won her season-opening match at the Australian Open in January. Other first-round winners included No 11-seeded Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia, and No 12 Mario Bartoli of France, but No 15 Kveta Peschke of the Czech Republic lost to Jamea Jackson of the United States 6-4, 6-3.
