Third seed Patty Schnyder reached the Family Circle Cup finals after a three set win over defending champion Justine Henin-Hardenne on Saturday. The Swiss player lost the first set 6-2 but made a great comeback to take the next two sets 6-3 6-2. This was her first ever win against her Belgian opponent in seven attempts. Henin-Hardenne was showing a fine display of shots, including a great serve and volley that gave her a 3-1 lead. The Belgian broke serve again in the next game to take a 4-1 lead, as Schnyder's serve let her down. Chance to serve The next two games went to serve, leaving Henin-Hardenne with the chance to serve out for the set. The top seed had no problems doing just that, taking it by six games to two after just thirty minutes on court. Schnyder got off to a good start in the second set by holding her serve in the opening game, and then broke Henin-Hardenne's serve for the first time in the very next game to take a two games to love lead. The next six games went to serve, as both players at times struggled with the high winds blowing around the court. But Schnyder was definitely playing far better than in the first set, while her opponent was making more errors and crucially was failing to break her opponent's serve. All Schnyder needed to do was hold her serve again in the ninth game to take the set and she produced some sparkling tennis to take it by six games to three. A ten-minute heat break was then taken and when the players returned, the first two games went to serve. Crucial break Schnyder got a crucial break in the third game to take a 2-1 lead, as Henin-Hardenne hit her reply into the net. The Swiss player was soon 4-1 ahead after winning her service game and then breaking her opponent again. Henin-Hardenne was not out of the match quite yet, breaking back in the next game to trail 4-2. Schnyder broke back for a 5-2 lead, and then held her serve when it really mattered to take the set 6-2 and with it the match. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
