Kitzbuehel:Italy's Andreas Seppi continued his recent good form when he beat former top-20 player Feliciano Lopez of Spain 5-7, 6-0, 7-6 (3) in the first round of Austrian Open on Tuesday.
Seppi, coming off his first career ATP final in Gstaad, led Lopez 5-1 in the first set when their match was interrupted by rain for about six hours.
Seppi then lost the next six games to drop the set, but won six in a row to even the match.
The deciding set went without breaks into a tiebreaker, where Seppi converted his first match point.
In an all-Austrian match, Alexander Peya beat wild card Oliver Marach 6-3, 7-6 (5).
Peya used a single break to win the first set, and was serving for the match at 6-5 in the second when he dropped his serve for the first time. Peya wrapped up the victory on his second match point in the tiebreaker.
Also through was wild card Daniel Koellerer, who beat Stefan Koubek 6-4, 6-0 in another all-Austrian clash.
Koubek, a former Kitzbuehel semifinalist making his 11th appearance in the tournament, led 4-1 in the first set then lost 11 games in a row against his 169th-ranked opponent.
Koellerer next plays last year's finalist Juan Ignacio Chela.
Fabio Fognini of Italy advanced after beating Juan Pablo Brzezicki of Argentina 6-4, 6-3, and Ivan Navarro Pastor of Spain defeated Konstantinos Economidis of Greece 6-4, 6-2.
