Kitzbuehel, Austria:Juan Monaco and Potito Starace reached the final of the Austrian Open on Saturday.
Monaco beat 11th-seeded Fernando Verdasco 7-5, 7-5, while Starace upset defending champion Agustin Calleri 6-4, 7-5.
"This is an unbelievable success for me," Starace said after winning the semifinal. "I did not expect to beat Calleri, but my serve went really well and gave me a lot of confidence."
The fifth-seeded Monaco, who won in Buenos Aires and Poertschach earlier this year, is aiming for his third career title, while the 10th-seeded Starace will bid for his first tournament victory.
The Argentine and the Italian are 1-1 in career meetings so far.
In the first set of a tight semifinal, Verdasco hit 11 winners from the baseline but dropped serve at 6-5 on the only break point of the set.
The second went without breaks again until 6-5, when Monaco converted his first match point as Verdasco mishit a volley.
Calleri dropped serve in the opening game and then made several unforced mistakes, while Starace had only three errors from the baseline in the first set.
In the second set, Calleri found his rhythm with his powerful groundstrokes. At 5-4, the Argentine had one set point on Starace's serve, but the Italian save it and won three games in row to close out the match.
