The biggest name to fall on day five of the French Open at Roland Garros was that of Venus Williams, the number eleven seed. She was beaten 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 by fifteen year-old Bulgarian Sesil Karatantcheva, making her first appearance as a senior at Roland Garros. Williams, who fought her way back to level the match in the second set, capitulated totally in the third against a player ranked 98 in the world. The 2002 runner-up undid all the good work she did in winning her first title for a year on clay in Istanbul last week. For Karatantcheva, who also put out Japanese number 19 seed Shinobu Asagoe in round two, it's either Emilie Loit of France or Emmanuelle Gagliardi of Switzerland up next for a place in the quarters - if she can keep her feet on the ground that is. Tough match On centre court, the number fourteen seed Kim Clijsters was up against Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova, on paper a tough match. Clijsters set up a last sixteen match against world number one and top seed Lindsay Davenport at the French Open, following a 6-4, 6-2 third round win over Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia. Davenport had a much tougher time of it though against Virginie Razzano of France, taking two and a half hours to dispose of the world number 39, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.Topics mentioned in this article
