Stanislas Wawrinka becomes world No. 3 after Australian Open victory

Stanislas Wawrinka had earlier dethroned Roger Federer as the new Swiss No.1 after reaching the Australian Open final. He currently sits behind world number one Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic at world No.3.

Swiss player Stanislas Wawrinka is now officially the new world No.3 after he jumped five places in the men's ATP tennis rankings released on Monday, all thanks to the Australian Open victory, his first career Grand Slam title.

The Swiss, who also became the new No.1 player in his country surpassing seven-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer after reaching the final in Melbourne, currently sits behind number one Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, with 5,710 points. (Read more about the new Australian Open champion)

Meanwhile, Nadal further improved his position in the rankings at 14,330 points and achieved a bigger gap over Djokovic, who dropped to 10,620 points after losing to Wawrinka in the Australian Open quarterfinals.
