Chennai : India's victorious Junior Davis Cup team arrived in Chennai on Sunday after winning the Asia Oceania zone competition in Colombo. The trio of Rupesh Roy, Jeevan Nedunchezian and Sanam Singh were evidently touched by the low key reception at the airport. There were no crowds but just a handful of relatives, local tennis association officials and journalists at the Chennai International Airport to meet the three member team. Splendid team effort But a satisfied coach Sandeep Kirtane says his boys were all fired up and stuck to the basics which helped them make history by defeating Australia 2-0 at Colombo. India has won the title for the first time ever. "Our basic goal was to play positive tennis. It's a real boost for all the three boys. It was a splendid team effort," says Sandeep Kirtane, coach, Jr Davis Cup team. Baseline help Local lad Jeevan Nedunchezian who gave the team a solid head start by trouncing Australia's Mathew Symons in straight sets was happy that his long practice sessions at the court didn't go in vain. "When I was practising in Chennai I was playing from the baseline. I am happy that I that was very solid from the baseline and everything worked out well over there," said Jeevan Nedunchezian, Junior Tennis Champion. Come September and the team will be hoping for an encore at the Junior World Finals in Barcelona.
