Wimbledon:Russia's Maria Sharapova will face Lindsay Davenport in a mouth-watering semi-final at Wimbledon. Davenport brought an end to Karolina Sprem's fine run, while Sharapova battled her way past Ai Sugiyama in three sets to make it to the last four of a grand slam for the first time. After sharing the spoils from two hard-fought sets, the 17-year-old Russian pulled clear in the decider, giving up only two points in the last five games to win the match 5-7 7-5 6-1. Davenport, the 1999 champion, reached the semi-finals at the All England Club for the fourth time when she beat the conqueror of Venus Williams, Croatia's Karolina Sprem, 6-2 6-2. Back on the other side of the women's draw, Jennifer Capriati set up a quarter-final against Serena Williams when she edged a tough battle against Nadia Petrova 6-4 6-4. Serena Williams and Capriati have played 15 times, with Williams leading 9-6 overall. But Capriati has won the last two, including last month in the quarter-finals of the French Open. They will meet in the Wimbledon quarters for the third time in four years. (AP)
