US Open: Ana Ivanovic Crashes Out in Round 2, Kei Nishikori Wins

Ana Ivanovic, who had been having her best season since winning the French Open in 2008, lost to Karolina Pliskova 5-7, 4-6 in the second round of the US Open on Thursday.

Ana Ivanovic failed to advance to the third round of a Grand Slam event for the first time this year. She is the highest seed to fall after No. 4 Agnieszka Radwanska, who lost to Peng Shuai in the second round.


New York: Former world number one Ana Ivanovic became the second top 10 seed to suffer a shock early US Open exit when she was knocked out by Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic on Thursday.

Ivanovic, the eighth seed, lost 7-5, 6-4 to the 42nd-ranked Pliskova who has reached the third round at a major for the first time.

The Serb followed fourth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska out of the tournament after the Pole had been beaten by Peng Shuai 24 hours earlier.
