Lleyton Hewitt will meet Tommy Robredo in one of Saturday's semi-finals at the Cincinnati Masters. The Australian number ten seed booked his place with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Marat Safin on Friday. Robredo beat Fabrice Santoro of France 6-2, 6-3 in a match-up of unseeded players. Safin showed only sporadic bursts of brilliance, failing to adapt to the conditions. Safin came into the match having not dropped a service game all week - that run ended in the fifth game of the first set, one the Russian would go on to lose 6-4. 30 unforced errors damaged the 14th seed's chances - Hewitt didn't have to do very much - just watch his opponent self-destruct. But when called upon, the Australian, seeded ten, was his usual busy self - fighting every point as though it was his last. Hewitt went on to clinch a 6-4, 6-4 win - reaching the semis here for the third time in four years to set up a meeting with Tommy Robredo. The Spaniard came out on top in the battle between two unseeded players. Fabrice Santoro provided little resistance, the Frenchman going down 6-2, 6-3. Fourth seed Carlos Moya was due to meet Andre Agassi with defending champion Andy Roddick taking on Tommy Haas in the remaining quarter-finals. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
