New Delhi:Vishal Uppal is setting the ball rolling in his second set in life, with this Charity Golf event.
Having said goodbye to the game, he now plans to further develop tennis and other sports in the country.
His new sports management firm, called Sports Boulevard, will organise not just Tennis Challengers, but events in other sports as well, and work all the way from the grassroots-level to the very top.
"Well you know I've come to the end of my tennis-playing career, so this is a natural progression for me.
We're primarily going to focus on Tennis and Golf and fitness and soccer. My whole aim is to try and promote sports in this country as much as possible at the grassroot-levels, because I want Indians to become more sports-oriented," said Vishal Uppal, Former Indian Davis Cupper.
"By opening a Sports Management company I think he can help a lot of other sports persons... and I don't think Tennis is going down. It's definitely growing up, so I'm looking at every prospect," said Rohan Bopanna, Member, Indian Davis Cup Team.
"Well why not? I mean if the sportspersons are not going to open Sports management companies, who else should? You know I'm very happy that he is," said Charu Sharma, Sports Commentator.
The charity event was his way of helping Thalassaemia patients. But he also has plans of doing his bit for fellow tennis players by bringing in the moolah.
"I want to involve the corporates, and convince them that there is a lot of scope for positive action in Tennis, if the appropriate funds are invested," said Vishal Uppal, Former Indian Davis Cupper
"I basically want the next generation to have everything I didn't, when I was growing up, building my game as a junior," he added.
And while he has no fixed time frame nor any focussed objective to produce an Indian world-beater in any particular discipline, he does hope his venture can ensure that fewer Indian sportspersons end up with the sort of regret that he did.
