Kolkata: India reached a score in excess of 500 for the first time in almost a year on Tuesday, against West Indies at the Eden Gardens. This despite playing three Test series after the match against New Zealand at Nagpur in which the hosts scored 566.
Powered by Rahul Dravid's century on the opening day, VVS Laxman and skipper MS Dhoni built India's innings further. The overnight score of 346/5 was left far behind as Laxman brought up his century followed by Dhoni's fifty.
The previous score in excess of 500 came against the Kiwis in November 2010. Rahul Dravid (191) and MS Dhoni (98) were the architects of the massive score of 566 then before the innings was declared. India won the match by an innings and 198 runs though the only chance Laxman got in the match gave him 12 runs.
